Time Flies When You’re Learning
October is halfway over! Time flies when you’re busy learning, picking apples and carving pumpkins.

In November, PONS will hold parent teacher conferences. This is a great opportunity to hear about your child’s experience thus far at PONS. This meeting also allows you to see ongoing projects the kids are working on, like writing their letters. Sign up sheets with available times will be posted in November.

PONS has been a part the Branford community since 1939. That is why, during the month of November, PONS will be doing their part to give back to our community. In November, we will be collecting food donations for the Community Dining Room. The Community Dining Room is in Branford and provides meals to people in need. Keep an eye out for the donation box come November.

Lastly, as a friendly reminder, we ask that you do not send your children to school wearing Halloween costumes. Halloween is a fun and exciting time for kids, but costumes can be distracting for our students while they are busy learning. Save those spooky, sparkly, creative costumes for trick or treating!

A Message from Mrs. Johnson!

In our classroom we learned about how apples grow and read about the many different types. Some children made applesauce. Others tasted different apples and we charted which was our favorite.

We continue to enjoy the ‘Favorite Things’ bag.

We are learning about our five senses and Mrs. Shanley is beginning to teach the children some sign language.

The K-readiness class is working on letter Dd, for alphabet books and the younger children join us for ‘hands on’ fun and games, as we learn letters and numbers.

We have also been talking and reading about fire safety and having fire drills.

NUT FREE is the Way to Be!
A friendly reminder to all parents:
PONS is a nut free school. Please do not send your child to school with nuts of any kind. This includes peanut butter, tree nuts and coconut. This is for the safety of our students with severe nut allergies

Parent Board Meetings
The board met on October 10th. We finalized activities for the fall festival, as well as, discussed the setup for the food and bake sale. The progress of the silent auction was discussed. We have had great donations from local businesses. We also brainstormed ways to improve parking at our school to allow 2-3 additional spots along the fence line. Future enrichment class options were also discussed. The next board meeting will be November 7th at 6pm at PONS. We hope to see some new faces at our next meeting!

Giving Tree
Our giving tree display is available for viewing. There are tags on the giving tree indicating the school’s current needs. If you would like to donate supplies, pick a tag from the tree and bring the designated supply back to school.

PONS appreciates everything our parents do for our school and its students. Parent involvement is the cornerstone of our school. Thank you for all you do for your child and all the students of PONS!

Fall Festival Update
The PONS Fall Festival is fast approaching! With a little over a week left, the parent board has been putting together silent auction donations and finalizing plans for the big day. The festival is a fundraiser, but it’s also an opportunity to come together as a school, and as friends, and celebrate what a great school Pine Orchard Nursery School really is.

Volunteers are still needed for set up or break down and for a few of the games. Bake sale goodies are always appreciated. Be sure to check your email for bake sale guidelines if you plan to bake. The food and bake sale are subject to inspection from the health inspector.

Check the Giving Tree and your email for a “wish list” of things still needed to complete gift baskets for the silent auction. Please bring your donation by October 24th, to allow for enough time to add the items to the baskets.

Thank you for everyone’s involvement and hard work. Whether you are spreading the word, making baked goods, providing donations for the silent auction or donating your time, every bit of your help has been appreciated.
