PINE ORCHARD NURSERY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

The Season of Thanks
First and foremost, thank you to everyone for all the hard work that went into this year’s Fall Festival! Without your help, a fundraiser of that size would not have been possible. The money raised by the Fall Festival will go towards a new shed. While the current one is bright and cheery, it has some unrepairable damage. Your dedication to the fundraiser and the school has put us one step closer to that goal.
As Thanksgiving approaches, we continue to collect canned goods for the Community Dining Room (CDR). The donation box is located under the parent mailboxes near the entrance. We were also provided a separate donation box from the Community Dining Room for Christmas donations. The CDR is collecting new coats for infants to 18 years old, toys for children 12 years and under, and gift cards for ages 13 and up. Christmas donations will be collected until December 15th.
Again, our many thanks and gratitude for your efforts over the last three months. It is this time of year that we reflect on the people and things we are most thankful and grateful for. Here at PONS, we are most thankful and grateful for the great families and friends within our school.
A Message from Mrs. Johnson!
“Our PONS classes have been learning about hibernation and migration.
The children had a voting day in school. They each got a ballot and circled their favorite book to read or song to sing for ‘story and music.’
The ‘F’ page in alphabet books was the American flag, which we talked about on Veteran’s Day.
We have been working on rhyming words, patterning, beginning sounds, and having fun with math, using popsicle sticks and counting bears.
Although we explore using art materials each day at school, Mrs. Shanley is offering ‘art class’ as a Friday special. She will focus on specific artists and their styles of art.
With Thanksgiving approaching, we will read and learn about the Pilgrim people and their journey. We will also talk about the Native American people who lived in our New England area.
We will soon be ready to hibernate our bear at school and take turns bringing bear home for an ‘overnight’ and write about its adventures in Bear’s Journal.
Our most sincere thanks to Alycia, our amazing board, and all of our PONS family for another fun and fabulous festival!
Please remember that we enjoy outdoor play in the snow. Get those snow pants, boots and warm outdoor clothes ready. The cold weather is almost here! Many Thanks!”
Parent Board Meeting
The board met on November 7th. We discussed how successful the Fall Festival was. A running total of the profit from the festival was reviewed by our bookkeeper, Sloane Maymon.
Also discussed, were projects for the Spring clean it, fix it day. We plan to cut back some overgrown evergreens and remove the front shrubbery and replace it.
In an effort to streamline tuition payments, it was voted upon at this meeting, that we will also begin accepting tuition payments via Venmo. You will still have the option to pay by check. Sloane Maymon will notify parents when this option is ready to use. The next board meeting will be December 12th at 6pm at PONS. We hope to see you there!
Thank you for your continued generosity with school supplies. As always, keep an eye out for school necessities. There may not also be a need, so check back frequently.
Cold Weather Preparedness
Though the temperatures may be falling, the students still enjoy outdoor play. Please remember gloves and hats for cold days, and snow gear for the days there is snow on the ground.
As a reminder, be sure to check your local news in the event of inclement weather. If Branford schools are closed, PONS will be closed. Please note, that if a 2 hour delay is declared, PONS will only have a 1 hour delay with a start time of 10am. Afternoon classes will start at regular time, 12:15pm. If an early dismissal is declared, afternoon class will be cancelled. If students are already at school when an early dismissal is called, parents will be called for early pick up.
